Welcome to Police Predators, a side project that documents child sexual abuse by law enforcement officers. Every month, I’ll be doing a roundup of all the stories I could find about cops that were charged with, convicted of, and/or sentenced for their crimes against minors.


Stephen J. Carroll, a former Scranton, Pennsylvania, police officer and school resource officer, was arrested and charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, official oppression, institutional sexual assault and "other offenses." Carroll allegedly committed the offenses over the span of 5 years, including the time he worked at West Scranton High School. Original story here.

Carson Quam, a former Cass County, North Dakota, sheriff's deputy, was charged with 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials. Quam resigned after learning of the investigation. There is a warrant out for his arrest. Original story here.

Cody Mitchell Burris, a Eustace, Texas, police officer, was arrested and charged with 5 counts of possession or promotion of child sexual abuse materials. Burris allegedly solicited and shared the media while on duty. Some of the alleged victims were infants. Original story here.

Alexander Stachura, a former probationary officer in Meridian Township, Michigan, was arrested and charged with 3 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials and 3 counts of using a computer to commit a crime. Stachura was fired from his position and held on $20,000 bond. According to the Lansing State Journal, "Stachura is the second law enforcement officer in the Lansing [Michigan] area charged with child pornography crimes this year." Original story here.

Myron Chatwin, a former sheriff's deputy in Washakie County, Wyoming and police officer in Worley, Wyoming, was arrested and charged for crimes related to sexually abusing multiple children. Original story here.

Jesus Lopez, a Deming, New Mexico, police officer, was arrested and charged with 4 counts of child abuse, 1 count of sexual exploitation of children, 6 counts of assault or battery of a household member, 1 count of false imprisonment, and 2 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Efren Lopez Cornejo, a former Border Patrol agent in Arizona, pleaded guilty to 1 count of child molestation and 1 count of indecent exposure to a minor under fifteen as part of a plea deal. Lopez Cornejo was originally charged with 6 counts of child molestation, 2 counts of sexual abuse of a minor, 4 counts of sexual conduct with a minor under fifteen, 1 count of indecent exposure to a minor under fifteen, and 1 count of attempted sexual conduct with a minor under fifteen. He repeatedly sexually abused his own daughter over the course of six years. Lopez Cornejo now faces a maximum of 5 years and 9 months in prison, down from the maximum of life in prison without the possibility of parole if all charges had stuck. Original story here.

Preston D. Casey, a former Roy, Utah, police officer, was arrested and charged with 6 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, 3 counts of object rape, and 6 counts of forcible sexual abuse. The alleged victim is his stepdaughter, who said the abuse occurred over the course of four years. Casey claims he does not remember any of the alleged incidents because of medication he was on. Austin Sabo, a former Walbridge, Ohio, police officer, was indicted on 1 felony count of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, 1 misdemeanor count of the same, and 1 felony count of illegal use of a minor or impaired person in nudity-oriented material or performance. Sabo allegedly admitted that he exchanged sexually explicit photos with a minor. Original story here.

Lucius Kearney, a former Washington, D.C., police officer, was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison on 1 count of first-degree sexual abuse of a child. Kearney met the victim while she was a sophomore in high school and started contacting her, ultimately sending lewd messages and sexually assaulting her in his vehicle. Once he finishes his sentence, he will have to register as a sex offender and be on 10 years of supervised release. Original story here.

Daniel Christensen, a former deputy in McKenzie County, North Dakota, was arrested and charged with 44 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials. Original story here.

Matthew Talley and Michael Riggan, both former dispatchers in Maumelle, Arkansas, were arrested and face charges related to the possession, distribution, and viewing of child sexual abuse materials. Talley and Riggan were both fired from their positions. Original story here.

George Richardson, a former Miramar, Florida, police officer, was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious written communication and use of a child in a sexual act and harmful communication with a minor. Richardson was terminated from the department. Original story here.

Johnathan Nathaniel Allen, a former corrections officer in Hamilton County, Tennessee, was arrested and charged with 3 counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and 1 count of criminal solicitation of a minor. Allen allegedly solicited sexually explicit photos from a 13-year-old on Reddit. Original story here.


Updates

Albert Sanchez was indicted on 24 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials. Sanchez is also being investigated for alleged aggravated sexual assault of a child. He is a 16-year veteran of the force.

Larry Clay Jr. was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was able to delay his sentencing a dozen times.

Matthew Marshall pleaded guilty on all counts.
