A roundup of police predators

Welcome to Police Predators, a side project that documents child sexual abuse by law enforcement officers. Every month, I’ll be doing a roundup of all the stories I could find about cops that were charged with, convicted of, and/or sentenced for their crimes against minors.

Shawn Souza, a former Dartmouth, Massachusetts police officer, was convicted on two counts of aggravated rape of a child, one count of rape of a child by force, and one count of indecent assault and battery of a person 14 or older. Souza molested a 15-year-old girl and repeatedly raped a family member between the ages of 6 and 8. He faces up to 25 years in prison. Original story here.

Alexander Allen, a former Billerica, Massachusetts police officer, was indicted on charges of aggravated rape of a child with a 10-year-age difference and possession of child pornography. He is accused of requesting nude photographs of and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. Original story here.

Kevin Menon, a Las Vegas, Nevada police sergeant, was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of visual presentation depicting the sexual conduct of persons under 16 years old. Menon was previously indicted for allegedly effecting unconstitutional detentions and arrests. Original story here.

Geoffrey Parker, a former Akron, Ohio police officer, has pleaded guilty to three counts of pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, three counts of illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material, one count of gross sexual imposition, and one count of pandering obscenity involving a minor. Parker took photos of and with toddlers, posting them on Kik to trade for more child sexual abuse materials. He was hit with a $1 million bail and will likely not return to his home as he lives near a school. He faces up to 65 years in prison. Parker also made the baffling decision to wear a shirt that said, "D.I.L.F.—Devoted, Involved, Loving Father" to his arraignment. Original story here.

Jaydan Vanosdol, a former North Vernon, Indiana, police officer, was arrested on child pornography charges. Vaynosdol is accused of trading nude photos with a minor on a social media site. He has since been fired from the department. Original story here.

Stephen Bojekian, a former Bergen County, New Jersey police chief, was arrested and charged with third-degree possession of child sexual abuse materials. Bojekian was a police officer for 26 years and most recently worked as a private investigator. Original story here.

Victoria Miavitz, a Sagamore Hills, Ohio police detective, tipped off a child sexual abuse material suspect during the course of her investigation into his activities. Three weeks later, a search warrant was executed at the suspect's house, which turned up nothing because the suspect had gotten rid of his cell phone and laptop. The suspect ended up pleading guilty to one count of possessing child sexual abuse materials and received no jail time but must register as a sex offender. Miavitz says she does not have a reason for tipping him off. Original story here.

Javed Richards, an Indianapolis, Indiana police sergeant, was indicted on five counts of distributing child sexual abuse material and one count of possession of child sexual abuse material in federal court. This is in addition to 13 counts of child exploitation and one count of possession of child pornography in state court. Richards is one of four Indianapolis police officers fired over accusations of sex crimes this year. Original story here.

Charles Kyote Dunn, a Waurika, Oklahoma reserve officer and city manager, was arrested and charged with possession and manufacture of child sexual abuse material and loitering around residence to watch occupants. Original story here.

Updates

James Weems Jr. testified that he never consumed child sexual abuse materials but admitted to watching pornography in the daycare van he drove, often with children in the back seat.
