Welcome to Police Predators, a side project that documents child sexual abuse by law enforcement officers. Every month, I’ll be doing a roundup of all the stories I could find about cops that were charged with, convicted of, and/or sentenced for their crimes against minors.
Johan Garcia, a former Highway Patrol Corporal in Florida, was arrested and charged with molestation, engaging in sex acts with a child or family member, and domestic violence. Garcia is accused of molesting his stepdaughter over the course of 5 years, starting when she was 12 years old. His wife, the alleged victim's mother, was also arrested. Garcia was terminated from his position following his arrest. Original story here.
Charles Issac, the chief of police in Cheneyville, Louisiana, was arrested and charged with molestation of a juvenile, sexual battery of a child under the age of 13, and aggravated crimes against nature. Original story here.
Robert "Bob" Alpert, a retired Springfield, Missouri, police officer, was arrested and charged with child molestation. Alpert allegedly sexually assaulted children in the early 2000s, and the victims are now coming forward. Original story here.
Ethan M. Kruger, a police officer in Caruthersville, Missouri, was arrested and charged with 6 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials. Original story here.
Christopher Thomason, a former sheriff's deputy in Blount County, Alabama, was arrested and charged with 11 counts related to child sexual abuse materials. Thomason allegedly sent nude photos to minors on Snapchat, including while he was in uniform. Original story here.
Randall Mahon III, a former deputy police chief in Covington, Louisiana, was arrested and charged with 17 counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials and 1 count of indecent behavior with a juvenile under the age of 13. Original story here.
Jordan Vaughn, a former police officer in Winnebago, Nebraska, was sentenced to 60 years in prison for 2 counts of production of child sexual abuse materials, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Vaughn recorded himself sexually abusing multiple children under the age of 12. Original story here.
Dominic Olivares, a former police officer in Greenville, North Carolina, was arrested and charged with 2 counts of first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, 3 counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and 3 counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. Olivares allegedly recorded lewd videos of a 16-year-old girl. Original story here.
Timothy Haroian, a school resource officer in Middletown, Connecticut, is under investigation for an alleged relationship with a 17-year-old student. Haroian is accused of exchanging thousands of texts with the student. Charges have not yet been filed, but Haroian is on administrative leave. Original story here.
Luke Zellman, a Colorado State Patrol trooper, was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a child. Zellman is on administrative leave. Original story here.
Eric Uller, a former police dispatcher and department employee in Santa Monica, California, is almost single-handedly bankrupting the city. Santa Monica has paid out over $200 million to victims of Uller, who died by suicide before he went to trial for allegedly sexually abusing hundreds of children in the Police Athletic League program. Daniel Verduzco was sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release and sex offender registration.
Albert Sanchez Jr. was hit with additional charges of continuous sexual abuse of a young child under 14 years old and aggravated sexual assault of a child. Sanchez allegedly sexually abused multiple additional children, one as young as 1 year old.
John Giarrusso was hit with additional federal charges of receiving child sexual abuse materials.
Linwood Barnhill pleaded guilty to sex trafficking a minor. He now faces 10 years to life in prison.
Daniel Ramos Aviles was found guilty of 3 counts of molestation of a child. He was found not guilty of an additional 4 counts of molestation of a child. Ramos Aviles now faces life in prison.
